Introduction

BlueRidge is a rack based server solution and is built on Windows Server Web Edition. It enables an organization to create and enhance not only documents but also electronic forms using state of the art technologies such as conversion, forms pre-filling, digital signatures, XML, time stamping… The system provides a collection of SOAP based web services that can easily be integrated in any platform using common development technologies. BlueRidge supports the usage of open, proved and well established standards such as XML, XMLDSIG, PDF, PADES,...

BlueRidge is a modular solution for document services, extendable with future or custom tailored services. It can easily be integrated into existing enterprise infrastructure as it uses standard web services (SOAP over HTTP or HTTPS). All sensitive operations and errors are logged by the Logging service. Any client application or web application supporting SOAP can communicate with BlueRidge.

The supplied SDK contains samples of web applications as well as Windows-based applications using BlueRidge for an integrated document workflow. BlueRidge also offers a fully integrated web based management console. Only client or web applications that are granted access by the system administrator can use the document services of BlueRidge. The software development kit contains a set of functions and samples that can be used in both C++ and Java environments.

Administrators can authorize new client applications, install new services, automatically update and diagnose software, analyze the log files,... The BlueRidge solution is scalable to allow addition of processing power while the number of users and concurrent accesses to the system will grow. High-availability techniques such as clustering, load balancing or equivalent are supported by the solution’s architecture.

ARCHITECTURE

BlueRidge is by definition a web services platform. This means that one always uses an intermediate application to use the functionality available in BlueRidge and provides the results to the end users. In most cases a 3-tier scenario is used as shown in the following schema.
